Explosion-Proof Crude Oil Circulation Heater

Crude oil flow assurance

The Explosion-Proof Crude Oil Circulation Heater is an industrial electric circulation heater engineered for continuous-flow crude oil heating in recirculation loops, gathering pipelines, transfer lines, unloading loops and oilfield process systems. It raises crude oil temperature in a controlled heating chamber to support viscosity reduction, anti-wax flow assurance and more stable downstream transportation.

For hazardous oilfield areas, XGTHERMAL can configure the heater body, electric heating elements, insulation, instruments and control cabinet around the site's process pressure, crude properties, temperature target and local automation interface.

Typical applications

Built for oilfield circulation and transfer lines.

This product is used where crude oil must keep moving through pipelines, manifolds or circulation loops under changing temperature, viscosity and wax-content conditions.

Crude oil gathering pipeline heating

Supports stable transfer from well pads, gathering stations and field manifolds.

Transfer-line viscosity reduction

Raises oil temperature to reduce pumping resistance in heavy or waxy crude service.

Anti-wax flow assurance

Helps keep the medium above critical wax-deposition conditions during transportation.

Cold-region oilfield start-up

Provides controlled heat input for exposed pipelines and station loops in winter operation.

Oilfield station retrofit heating

Can be supplied as a heater body or a skid-mounted package for brownfield process upgrades.

Heating challenges

Why crude oil circulation heating matters.

In field transportation, crude oil heating is rarely only about reaching a number on the outlet thermometer. The heating path must handle viscosity, wax behavior, surface temperature and hazardous-area safety at the same time.

Process challenge High viscosity at low temperature

Cold crude increases pressure drop, pump load and unstable transfer in gathering pipelines.

XGTHERMAL design focus Controlled circulation heating

Heating duty, surface heat load and residence time are configured around the crude property and flow condition.

Operational risk Wax deposition and blockage risk

Maintaining a suitable temperature window helps reduce wax build-up and unexpected line restriction.

  • Localized overheating and coking risk are considered during heater sizing and surface heat-load selection.
  • Explosion-proof station requirements can be matched through hazardous-area electrical design and suitable field instruments.
  • Single-body, double-body, multi-body or skid-mounted configurations can be selected according to heating duty and installation layout.

Engineering design

Configured as a heater body or a packaged circulation skid.

The heater can be designed for once-through pipeline heating or recirculation loops. XGTHERMAL can integrate process nozzles, flanges, insulation, temperature and pressure instruments, flow protection and local control cabinets according to project requirements.

  • Crude-oil wetted parts and connection sizes selected by medium property and pressure rating
  • Low surface heat load options for waxy or coking-sensitive crude service
  • Skid-mounted piping, valves, drain/vent interfaces and insulation available for site-ready delivery
  • Local panel, PLC logic, SCR power control and station communication can be configured by project
Control and protection

Stable outlet temperature with layered electrical and process protection.

Crude oil circulation heaters should not rely on simple on/off heating alone. A project-specific control system can regulate heating output and protect the heater when flow, pressure, leakage or temperature moves outside the permitted operating range.

PLC temperature control

Outlet-temperature feedback can be used for automatic heating adjustment and operator visibility.

SCR stepless power regulation

Power output can be adjusted smoothly to reduce thermal shock and unnecessary cycling.

Flow / no-flow interlock

Low-flow protection helps prevent dry heating and abnormal surface temperature rise.

Over-temperature and over-pressure protection

Independent alarm and shutdown logic can be configured for heater body, outlet medium and control cabinet.

Technical FAQ

Common engineering questions.

Is a circulation heater the same as an in-line heater?

In many procurement documents, circulation heater, in-line heater and inline electric process heater may describe similar continuous-flow heating duties. Final naming depends on piping layout, recirculation loop design and project specification.

Can this heater be used for crude oil and produced fluid?

Yes. The heater can be engineered for crude oil, produced fluid and oil-water mixture heating when the medium properties, water cut, viscosity and fouling tendency are reviewed during sizing.

How do you select surface heat load or watt density?

Surface heat load, often called watt density, is selected according to crude oil properties and allowable wall temperature. Heavy crude, waxy crude or fouling-prone service usually requires a lower watt density design.

Can it be supplied as a skid-mounted package?

Yes. XGTHERMAL can supply the heater body alone or a skid-mounted package with process piping, valves, instruments, insulation, junction boxes and control cabinet integration.

Do you supply crude oil circulation heaters from China for overseas projects?

Yes. XGTHERMAL is a China-based manufacturer of explosion-proof electric heaters and skid-mounted heating systems for oil and gas projects. We support project-specific design, documentation and export-oriented technical communication.

What certification documents can be supported?

Project documentation can be prepared around IEC 60079 / GB/T 3836 hazardous-area requirements, NDT, material certificates, FAT records and, where required, project-specific ATEX, IECEx, EAC or JIP33 alignment discussions.
