Explosion-Proof Wellhead Heater

Wellhead heating and freeze protection

Designed specifically for oilfield wellheads, the Explosion-Proof Wellhead Heater supplies local heat to support wellhead insulation and freeze protection in cold weather. Its sealed die-cast aluminum housing and compact mounting assembly suit exposed wellhead installations where oil, water and wind-blown sand are everyday operating conditions.

Manufactured by XGTHERMAL in China, the range provides up to 500 W of localized heating. Under the specified installation and operating conditions, the heater reaches a stable thermal balance without an electronic temperature controller. Silicone-rubber cabling resists heat, oil and aging, while supplied mounting components simplify installation and removal at the wellhead.

Heat-Balance Operation Stable thermal balance under specified conditions, without electronic temperature control
Typical applications

Local protection for exposed wellhead installations.

This product supplies local maintenance heat around the wellhead. Its suitability depends on the exposed equipment, installation arrangement and heat loss; it is not intended to provide bulk heating of flowing crude oil or natural gas.

Wellhead heat retention

Supplies local heat where the wellhead installation needs protection from ambient cooling.

Winter freeze protection

Can support a site freeze-protection plan when heat output is matched to the actual losses.

Insulated wellhead arrangements

Reviewed together with the surrounding insulation and the permitted heater installation conditions.

Outdoor oilfield service

Sealed construction is intended for sites exposed to oil, water and sand within the unit’s rated limits.

Existing wellhead protection upgrades

Mounting components allow the local heater arrangement to be reviewed for installation and future servicing.

Heating challenges

Match local heat input to site heat loss.

A small local heater must be matched to the heat that escapes from the protected installation. Wind, insulation condition and changes in ambient temperature affect that balance. Increasing installed watts without reviewing the mounting arrangement and permitted surface temperature is not a substitute for selection.

Process challenge Heat loss in cold weather

Low ambient temperature, wind and exposed metal increase the protection duty.

XGTHERMAL design focus Heater and installation selected together

Rating, mounting and insulation are reviewed against the local heat-retention objective.

Operational risk Underheating or excessive surface temperature

Too little useful heat can leave the installation unprotected; an unsuitable installation can also exceed temperature limits.

  • Use the design minimum ambient temperature and realistic wind exposure for selection.
  • Check surrounding insulation against the heater’s permitted mounting and surface-temperature conditions.
  • Keep access for wellhead operation, inspection, cable protection and heater removal.

Engineering design

Built for installation and servicing at the wellhead.

The sealed die-cast aluminum housing encloses the heating assembly. External silicone-rubber cabling and installation components support oilfield installation and removal for servicing. The mounting location, cable route and surrounding insulation are reviewed together so the heater can deliver useful local heat without obstructing normal wellhead access.

  • Die-cast aluminum enclosure with a sealed construction
  • Silicone-rubber external cable with heat, oil and aging resistance
  • Supplied mounting components for straightforward wellhead installation and removal
  • Cable route and service access checked against the wellhead layout
Operation and protection

Stable wellhead heating through thermal balance.

As the heater warms up, heat input and heat loss reach a dynamic balance, stabilizing its temperature under the specified conditions. This structural approach provides steady local heating without relying on electronic temperature-control components. The selected rating, mounting and surrounding insulation must keep operating temperatures within the unit’s permitted limits.

Independent of electronic temperature control

Normal thermal-balance operation does not depend on an electronic temperature controller, avoiding reliance on that component and its failure modes.

Matched to the wellhead environment

Heater selection accounts for ambient temperature, mounting and insulation to establish suitable thermal-balance conditions at the wellhead.

Electrical installation protection

Supply protection, grounding, cable routing and termination must follow the selected unit’s instructions and site requirements.

Hazardous-area suitability and inspection

Confirm gas group, temperature class, permitted ambient range and enclosure marking for the installation. Sealed construction does not replace inspection of cable condition, terminations and mounting integrity.

Technical FAQ

Common engineering questions.

Is this a wellhead line heater for flowing gas or oil?

No. This is a compact heater for localized wellhead heat retention and freeze protection. An in-line or circulation heater raises the temperature of fluid flowing through a process chamber and is selected for a different duty.

What other names describe this product?

The product is also described as a wellhead insulation heater, wellhead heat-preservation heater or local wellhead freeze-protection heater. These names describe the application; this page does not describe a cable heat-tracing system or a fired wellhead line heater.

How does the heater stabilize temperature without electronic control?

It uses thermal balance: as the heater warms up, heat loss balances heat input and the temperature stabilizes under the specified conditions. This differs from an adjustable electronic setpoint. The equilibrium temperature depends on the installation and environment; any additional monitoring or shutdown requirement is reviewed for the project.

How is the required heater power selected?

The published range is up to 500 W. Required power depends on the heat loss of the protected installation at the design ambient conditions, including wind exposure and insulation. The rating is selected for the particular wellhead arrangement rather than its production flow rate.

Do you supply wellhead heaters from China?

Yes. XGTHERMAL is a China-based manufacturer of explosion-proof wellhead electric heaters for oilfield applications. We support project-specific selection, technical documentation and overseas procurement discussions.

What certification documents can be supported?

Ask for the documents covering the exact model, voltage, rating and temperature class. Applicable Ex certification, inspection records and installation instructions should be reviewed against the destination requirements. ATEX, IECEx or EAC routes are subject to assessment and are not blanket certificates for this range.
