Flanged
Immersion Heater

Project-configured electric heating for oil storage tanks, drums and process vessels.

Equipment Overview

Matched to your liquid.
Built for your vessel.

The Explosion-Proof Immersion Heater is an industrial electric heater engineered for oil storage tanks, drums and process vessels. It provides controlled heat input to support liquid warm-up, temperature maintenance and oil withdrawal in cold conditions. Flanged immersion heater assemblies are configured around the vessel connection, liquid properties and required heating duty.

XGTHERMAL can configure the heating bundle, mounting connection, terminal enclosure and control cabinet for hazardous oilfield areas. The tank-heater design can include a protective sleeve that separates the removable element from the liquid; direct-immersion and sleeved arrangements are reviewed against the project requirements.

Tank & vessel heating

Liquid warm-up, holding duty and cold-weather oil withdrawal.

Fluid-matched heat load

Heating area and watt density selected for the liquid.

Vessel-matched installation

Mounting, immersion length, protection and controls configured together.

Applications

Built for oil storage tanks
and process vessels.

Warm or maintain a liquid inventory at the required temperature. The heating arrangement depends on fluid properties, available liquid depth, tank geometry and operating cycle.

Oil storage tank heating

Maintains suitable oil temperature for storage, pumping and withdrawal.

Heavy and waxy oil conditioning

Supports viscosity reduction before transfer, with heat load matched to the oil.

Process vessel temperature maintenance

Adds controlled heat to a liquid inventory during holding or batch operation.

Cold-region tank warm-up

Provides planned warm-up for cold liquids, accounting for insulation and heat loss.

Sump and drain drum heating

Can be evaluated for collected liquids where minimum level and sediment clearance are defined.

Engineering & Protection

Configured around the connection
and working liquid level.

The assembly fits into the tank or vessel through a project-selected connection. In a direct-immersion design, the element sheath contacts the liquid. In a sleeved tank heater, heat passes through a separate sleeve while the element remains isolated from the process liquid. The arrangement is confirmed before manufacture.

  • Flange rating, nozzle size and wetted materials selected for the liquid and vessel pressure
  • Heated length, unheated section and watt density matched to liquid level and fouling tendency
  • Bundle withdrawal space and sleeve arrangement reviewed for installation and maintenance
  • Flanged or threaded screw-plug connection requirements can be reviewed with local controls and site signals
  • Keep the active heated length below the minimum liquid level and clear of sediment and obstructions.
  • Match watt density to viscosity, fouling tendency and allowable surface temperature; limited liquid movement can increase local temperature.
01

PLC temperature control

Liquid-temperature feedback can be used for automatic heating adjustment and operator visibility.

02

SCR stepless power regulation

Power output can be adjusted smoothly to reduce thermal shock and unnecessary cycling.

03

Low-liquid-level interlock

Heating is inhibited below the permitted liquid level to help prevent dry firing and exposed hot surfaces.

04

Independent over-temperature protection

Separate high-limit protection can monitor the heating assembly, alongside electrical faults and vessel-pressure signals where required.

Selection Support

From operating conditions
to a practical equipment review.

Estimate the warm-up duty of a fixed liquid inventory, then share the conditions needed to review the complete heating arrangement.

Estimate the heating duty.

Estimate average heating power for warming a fixed liquid inventory over a specified time.

kW = mass × Cp × ΔT ÷ (3600 × hours) + heat loss

For single-phase liquid warm-up with no inflow or outflow. Excludes vessel thermal mass, evaporation and changes in specific heat. Holding duty needs a separate heat-loss assessment. Defaults are illustrative; final selection must confirm mixing, liquid level, watt density and hazardous-area requirements.

Common engineering questions.

Is a tank heater the same as an immersion heater?

Tank heater describes the application; immersion heater describes the installation. A flanged immersion heater fits through a vessel nozzle, while a screw-plug immersion heater uses a threaded connection. The appropriate mounting arrangement depends on the duty and vessel interface.

Does the heating element contact the liquid?

In a direct-immersion arrangement, the element sheath is wetted by the liquid. A sleeved tank-heater arrangement separates the removable element from the liquid through a protective sleeve. The selected arrangement must be stated in the project datasheet.

How do you select surface heat load or watt density?

Surface heat load, or watt density, depends on liquid properties, heat transfer and allowable surface temperature. Viscous, waxy or fouling-prone liquids generally need more heating area for a given duty. Sleeve resistance must also be considered where fitted.

What happens if the liquid level falls?

The heated section must remain covered during operation. A low-level interlock should interrupt heating before it becomes exposed; independent high-limit protection provides another layer of protection. Normal temperature control alone is not a substitute for these functions.

Do you supply immersion heaters from China for overseas projects?

Yes. XGTHERMAL is a China-based immersion heater manufacturer serving oil and gas projects. We support project-specific heater design, documentation and export-oriented technical communication for overseas procurement.

What certification documents can be supported?

Project documentation can be prepared around IEC 60079 / GB/T 3836 hazardous-area requirements, NDT, material certificates, FAT records and, where required, project-specific ATEX, IECEx, EAC or JIP33 alignment discussions.
