Induction Process Heater
for Oilfield Fluids

Electromagnetic heating for crude oil and produced liquids, configured around your process and station requirements.

Equipment Overview

Heat generated in the metal.
Transferred to the process fluid.

An alternating magnetic field induces currents in the metal heating tube. Heat is generated in the metal itself and transferred through the tube wall to crude oil or produced liquids flowing through the designed passages.

The induction winding is separated from the process fluid. The heated tube wall remains a wetted heat-transfer surface, so wall temperature, deposits and minimum-flow protection still matter. Heater units and complete skid packages are configured around your specification.

Cold-region operation

Viscosity control, insulation and winter start-up reviewed together.

Heating Principle & Engineering

Match the heated wall
and the fluid passage.

The metal heating tube and induction winding form a matched assembly. Distributed winding and an extended heating section support the agreed heat-transfer duty. Internal passages, return-flow connections and drain access are selected for the fluid and maintenance requirements.

Heat generation and flow arrangement are separate design choices. A longer return-flow path must be checked for pressure loss and minimum flow; it does not establish a fixed increase in efficiency. Sand, scale and low flow can still create hot spots at the wetted wall.

  • Allowable wall temperature and heat loading based on crude properties and fouling risk.
  • Heating length, flow velocity and pressure drop reviewed together.
  • Drain locations and cleaning access selected for solids-bearing service.
  • Power-factor correction and harmonic filtering reviewed for the site network; they do not establish a fixed process-energy saving.
01

PLC / PID regulation

Temperature feedback regulates the power-control stage through the agreed control signal.

02

Local & remote operation

Local controls, remote start / stop and RS485 Modbus RTU interfaces for station control.

03

Shell & core temperature

Warnings and protective trips have separate roles; latched trips require investigation and manual reset.

04

Process & electrical protection

Minimum-flow, pressure and electrical-fault protection configured for the installation.

Technical Data & Delivery Scope

Review the details that matter.

Published ranges describe configurable heater units. Multi-unit packages can serve larger duties; final ratings and certification are confirmed for the selected configuration.

Selection Support

From operating conditions
to a practical equipment review.

Start with mass flow, representative specific heat and the required temperature rise. Final selection also checks wall temperature, fluid velocity, pressure drop and induction-coil loading.

What to share with our team.

Send your datasheet and representative fluid properties. Water-cut, solids-bearing or multiphase streams need a project review; a generic oil property cannot reliably establish equipment rating. The heat-duty relationship Q = ṁ × Cp × ΔT is a starting point for suitable single-phase liquid service.

Common engineering questions.

Is an electromagnetic heater the same as an induction heater?

On this page, induction heater and electromagnetic heater describe the same heating method: an energized winding induces currents in a metal heating tube. This is a flow-through process heater, not an induction tool for bearing installation or metal hardening.

Can it handle water-cut crude oil and sand-bearing fluid?

Yes. The design can be configured for crude oil and water-cut produced liquids after reviewing viscosity, solids, water chemistry and scaling tendency. Drainage access helps maintenance; it does not replace a sand separator or remove the need for periodic cleaning.

Does oil contact the energized coil?

The induction winding is separated from the process fluid. Heat crosses the metal tube wall into the fluid, so that wall can still foul or overheat if flow is lost. Electrical isolation does not eliminate the need for hazardous-area design and independent protective shutdown.

Can it be supplied as a skid-mounted package?

Yes. Multiple heating units can be integrated with skid piping, valves, instruments, insulation and control cabinets. The Oilfield Transfer Station Induction Heating Project below is a 600 kW package reference, not a universal rating for every heater unit.

Do you manufacture induction heaters in China for overseas projects?

Yes. XGTHERMAL is a China-based manufacturer of explosion-proof induction heaters and packaged oilfield heating equipment. We support project-specific engineering, technical documentation and export-oriented communication for overseas procurement teams.

What certification documents can be supported?

Applicable Ex and pressure-equipment documentation is agreed during selection. ATEX, IECEx or EAC assessment can be coordinated when required; a route is not an existing certificate for every configuration. If JIP33 S-723 is specified, the EPC must review its applicability because its primary scope is resistance-type heater bundles.
